About This Project

A major stand-alone exhibit incorporating an integrated and fully automated recycling machine and six associated waste sorting stations with overhead scoreboards at each station. The aim is to promote an understanding of different materials and the mechanics of recycling.

Six visitors take part in a group activity to sort trash that is delivered to an industrial-themed recycling area.  Trash sorting activity is linked to screen-based shows illustrating how each material can be reduced, reused or recycled.

Waste sorting stations with overhead scoreboards are located at each of the six stations where three different types of recyclable objects are sorted by each visitor as they pick them off the moving conveyor.  Objects are sorted according to category: wood; metal; plastic.  Scores are recorded for sort rate and accuracy at each station.  The performance for each station is shown at the end of the game.
